Question

I've spoken to an AE there on the growth side, said finding workloads to put on Mongo can be really tough especially ripping away from legacy DB companies.  Seems like a very tough sell shooting in the dark to find those workloads making it difficult to hit quota.  Is it a need or a nice to have?

statement is accurate. it's one of the most competitive markets but the value is there. Especially around Atlas. Account positioning and having the patience to see it through is important. This is a job that yield little success but when it does its life changing. its not for everyone.

I'd say the statement is fairly accurate. Moving from legacy DB is tough because of the amount of work required to do so. You'll find yourself in situations where everyone including the customer wants to do so, but the complexity makes it a long-drawn task. Finding the right champions/accounts who can see this through is important.

Typically when these companies come with a new product version, MongoDB is often the technology of choice. I don't think you have to worry about the tech/product.

I agree with what others have said. I would add to make sure you qualify and understand what accounts you will be managing and why/how the previous rep handled them. If you've never sold databases before, then know that selling a backend, primary Database for a new use-case/architecture is difficult. Databases are THE most important thing in a customers tech stack. Therefore, you need to ensure the accounts you are taking over have a good use-case with either some champions and significant pain for them to "rip and replace."

Whether it's a nice to have or need to have is all dependent on the customer's use-case. Good luck!
