HubSpot prioritized rapid hiring over retaining talent, resulting in high attrition and declining performance. Experienced, high-revenue reps left with no effort to keep them, while new hires struggled, ending up on PIPs or leaving. In response, leadership shifted its entire strategy to boosting new hire attainment. Accounts are taken from full quota reps and reassigned monthly and training remains surface level. Full quota reps shoulder the majority of 1:1 training, as most managers lack the necessary skills. With an overcrowded sales team and limited opportunities, the culture has turned cutthroat, rewarding reps who break the rules or manipulate the system. At Hubspot, reps once led with heart, but that is no longer the standard.
