Question

Hello I️ am an incoming SDR in the Austin Office and I️ was wondering if someone could help provide insight into the role as far as OTE (Along with $55K Base), Quota Attainment, Office Environment, Career Progression, etc. Also if you any recommendations or suggestions feel free to leave them too.

Hi - I joined SDR team in summer 2020. Promoted to Account Manager summer 2021. Left Oracle fall of 2022.

OTE: Highly dependent on the team you are placed on. Some SDR teams hit their numbers and others don't - depends on your target. I'd say 70k is a common amount to make as an SDR.

Quota: Typically some people on your team will hit their numbers and others will miss. Highly team and territory dependent. Some people will be blessed with great sales territories and others will be given tough sales territories.

Office Environment: I was remote almost the entire time I was there, but the culture is Greek-life heavy. Old-school sales environment. Not the most diverse workplace environment. Cut-throat, but you don't end up working the longest hours. When I was there I didn't enjoy the people culture, but I had a positive work-life balance, which might have been due me being entirely remote. I've also had some horrible experiences with managers - I didn't like my managers at Oracle but I also wasn't working wild hours. Fingers crossed you are blessed with a kind manager.

Career Progression: It is important to make many friends with people who you start out with and also be on the better performing half of your team. After the first year and the 1.5 year mark people tend to either get promoted or leave. Having a lot of friends within the company and having a positive reputation can lead to you getting promoted. Getting promoted to Account Executive at Oracle and then ultimately leaving at the 2-3 year mark to a higher paying Account Executive job is a promising and common career trajectory.   I'm happy with the FAANG company I switched to after Oracle, and I am making a lot more as an Account Executive elsewhere.  For longterm career stability I'd make it a goal to try to be promoted to Account Executive.

I'd take all of my advice with a grain of salt - people's experiences at Oracle can vary tremendously.

It depends on the business unit you are joining for what answer you will get. Are you joining fusion, netsuite, industry team, OCI??

Oracle is such a huge place and each business unit is very different in terms of success rates, quota attainment, and even the sales process in terms of whether it is transactional /short-term or more enterprise/long term. Your manager matters, and the metrics you are measured on change frequently.

Slow career progression, low quota achievement, toxic environment.
Recommendation : learn, stay for a couple of years, if you promote to AE, stay for another two years, then switch to a more healthy high paying company.
Oracle sales people are the Tech sales Pedigrees, they are well regarded.

Ran out of room on last reply - ask questions like how many SDR’s on this team reached quota last year? What am I measured on? How many AEs will I support? Are all of those AE positions currently filled? Who are our biggest competitors?
