In late-stage interviews for SMB - growth specialist - was excited to potentially join the company until I read all the reviews here as of recent.

Specifically SMB teams - is micro-managing really that bad and what is realistic for quota attainment? How many people are getting fired?

Its an absolute massacre. About 25% hit full quota a month. They had to stop auto piping because too many got pipd. Avg deal size is 850 mrr. Quota is 5800 or 5900 mrr. You get no leads. You are cooked.

It’s brutal - ramp is nice but once you’re on full quota only 25% hit any given month.  You’re held to a trailing 6 months above 70% and people aren’t able to do that let alone hit full quota consistently.

Honestly every one I know who I started with in September is either looking to leave because they aren’t hitting quota/living off their base salary, they are on PIPs, being fired. There’s a reason HubSpot is constantly hiring, constantly bringing in new reps and getting rid of others at their 1yr.

Hubspot is a great resume builder, amazing product, great perks, wfh, etc. that said to hit 100% you will likely need to work 12-15 hour days for the foreseeable future. Managers will want to check every deal next step email before you send. Poach leads at 5pm if you can. Capacity is king.

Yes you can hit goal but be ready to prospect for hours a day, working at least 10 hours a day, being micro-managed, they just want you to sell everything you can and not really customer focused. There is a reason why they hire so many sales reps.. its not because there is this abundance of need, its due to churn.

Expectations are unrealistic, especially if you want to have a life outside of work. Micro managing is rep/team dependent. Ramping quotas are realistic, but you have to split if you have a senior rep help you, also monthly quotas mean ZERO non-stress days. They let people go quitely.

It's not that bad at all! The culture is WAY less competitive than other sales organizations (in a good way) but just enough to have a great work hard/play hard mindset. Quota is definitely realistic and just a matter of doing what works (not reinventing the wheel.) HubSpot sells itself, for new AEs it's all about building your foundation and prospecting habits early on so you know what works and what doesn't. Best of luck in your next interviews!!
