Question

Someone please shoot me straight. Are things as bad as they seem per this anon q&a section? If they are, I'm just going to stop interviewing, and move on to a different org.

I hate to be that person, but they are. If you need the job take it and get the ramp, but be looking for something else. They have 100% set the rep up to fail at Hubs. I have seen too many smart good sellers/people get treated like trash.

I am in my first month of selling here and there were about 20 or so new hires… most of us are 30% or less to our quota this month which is at about 15% of our normal goal.. I don’t think any one on my team will hit. I am already burned out from all the activity we have to do… yes it’s that bad.

Brings me no pleasure to write this and I pray that leadership will begin to make changes but here's the no BS answer...

I'll start with a positive...the product is GREAT.  Having said that...
 
- If you are interviewing, DO NOT let your interviewer off without fully explaining the clawback policy...short explanation, its a full 12 months and comes off both commission and attainment (which is pretty wild)...many reps are working themselves to death to hit or come close to quota in a close at all costs environment, then getting pulled back to basically no attainment because deal(s) they closed earlier in the year decided to stop paying (completely out of the reps control and no exceptions whatsoever). So the rep ends-up going quite a while without commission and rapidly falling average attainment makes it impossible to survive. 
- The top 10-15 reps (out of 300+ or so per segment) serve as the company's order takers...coasting by with a healthy flow of high quality leads and minimal effort, and the end of the month they get propped up as the greatest thing to ever happen to sales. Everyone else is driving themselves mad chasing butterflies. You'll get gaslit into thinking you are just horrible at sales and don't hold a candle to these reps and their incredible sales aptitude/discovery skills.
- So this part is 100% true...it recently came to light that for multiple years, many of the top reps and managers had figured out a way to intercept inbound leads that were meant to be routed evenly. No repercussions and many of us believe shady stuff like this is still happening today. 
- Rule by fear sales organization
- Outbound prospecting is a bit of a joke, finding good accounts is like searching for a 1 specific needle in a stack of needles. Nobody buys HubSpot in a completely cold manner, you have to just grab accounts that look good, which is damn near impossible to come by, and pray that eventually they will respond to you and have some level of intent.
- Managers primary job is to interview new candidates and ask you what you are closing
- If you are an outside hire with prior experience in SaaS, maybe a little older, have a family, etc. Just be ready to watch helplessly while an early 20's, previous BDR in their first quota carrying role easily crushes you on earnings due to the healthy flow of quality ready-to-buy leads that fall into their lap.
- Maybe at best, 20% of your segment is actually hitting quota. If the segment hits or comes close to its total number, its HEAVILY disproportionate as the top 10-20 are making up the majority of that with month-over-month consistent over-performance while everyone else struggles.
- More micromanagement seems to be leaderships answer to poor performance instead of enabling reps to be successful.

If you're interviewing for MM or SMB in the US, I'd pass on the role unless you really need the job now or want the logo on your resume.
Too many reps, quota is very high, lead flow is non-existent and you'll be dinged on commission AND  attainment for any clawbacks. Hubs needs to sort a lot out

Usually one or two reps per hiring class end up hitting their ramp goals. It’s mostly based on luck. you can work 12 hours a day and probably scrape to 100%, but in my opinion it’s not worth the mental health cost.

Leadership activity allows shady behavior to occur to keep old reps happy. They do 2x quota increases per year despite historically low attianment. Churning through reps across all segments. Unless you get the Goldilocks west coast territory you’re cooked

I agree with most of the comments below. This is a high volume, highly transactional sales process where you will need to work 16-18hrs daily to actually make money and get above quota. This is a boiler room environment and most managers are only managing the number. A big name isn’t everything.

Hubspot hits both your commission and current month attainment when there is any downgrade or churn outside of your control. You can start a month at a negative attainment. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s possible to be successful, but it requires luck and a lot of hard work.

reps are at the mercy of the 400-500 prospects they get mass assigned at the beginning of the year. supposedly distributed equally. lack of ownership from leadership on reviewing this “equality.” skilled reps fighting to stay off PIPS while others coast and get lucky on inbound QLs.

If you need a job, go ahead and take it, but keep interviewing for other opportunities and be prepared to leave. This place is bad for your mental and physical health, with 12+ hour days and no control over your situation. Success here depends on luck and capacity. In my cohort, over 90% of reps didn’t last a year, and most were fired within the first six months.

Sadly a lot of the reviews are accurate, things seem to have changed quite rapidly in terms of the culture in the past 1-2 years. I don't know of many reps enjoying their Sales role, it's the money that keeps people going. It's high pressure with monthly quotas (vs quarterly) and high cold outbound activity requirement. In saying that, it's an awesome product, I made quota every month on ramp and the money is great, so could be an opportunity for you to save a good amount of coin.

For any UK|I / US role id say give it a miss, Benelux and nordilux are ok as in they’re not saturated yet , cant speak for the remainder of the business

likely depends on your segment. The other answer sounds like commercial. I’m in mid market and it’s been fine. Yes, you have to prospect. Yes, you have to work hard. the complaining is unjustified. I’ve hit 100%+ all but my first 2 months but they’re paying you a draw anyways
