The business unit is currently having big time retention issues. Unfortunately, with the way your book is set up, if one account fails to renew regardless of why, your years over. You won't hit quota, get promoted, or make much money that year. Additionally, there's limited opportunity to grow in the mid-market business unit, despite what leadership tells you.

Always hiring in sales, when they add team members, reduce territories and spread among new head count. As the team grows it is difficult to hit quota. Gartner is a luxury (non necessary) service for IT teams, therefore in a difficult economy tougher to sell.
