What is the sales team leadership like at Datadog and how does it support the growth and success of its salespeople?

I can only speak for the commercial segment, but it is truly the worst across any SaaS role I have ever had. Little to no coaching, constantly scape goating you to save their butt. They just churn and burn AEs. Leadership from the VP of Commercial Sales to the directors is awful. Cannot emphasize enough that it was the worst I have experienced in my career. They joked about causing mental health issues for their AEs as a badge of honor. Director of Commercial Sales West was a used car salesman, and lacks any sort of integrity.

I think the management team is extremely sharp and if you want to learn they are eager to help in anyway. It’s a great place to work if you are trying to break into a more technical selling career. Our sales framework is pretty top notch and the skills you learn will help your career.

I can only second what the previous answer mentioned. I didn't feel I received much support at all from the Director of Commercial Sales (West), and the VP of Commercial Sales is one of the most disconnected leaders I've ever met. If you don't find success, it's immediately your fault. And if you ever find yourself with a Performance Plan, you WILL be let go. Even if you hit all the metrics and expectations. It's essentially a kiss of death, and no leader will help you or support you in the process. I saw this multiple times across the sales floor in my time there.

I can only speak to the Enterprise Sales team, but I've been impressed by the Sales leadership team I work for and the amount of focus that has been shown on ensuring my success. My boss is the best boss I've ever had and the limited interactions I've had with the various VPs has all been positive. There is a lot of rigor, discipline, and process that goes into Enterprise Sales at Datadog so if you're someone who likes to fly by the seat of their pants than this may not be the best fit. I've also heard things are a bit more churn and burn with the Commercial team so the answer to this can vary significantly depending on specific team/region you're looking to join.

I haven't been here long, but I can say I feel supported by my direct manager for anything I need. (Commercial team) The company as a whole also invests a ton as far as training, enablement, and more.  I haven't had a role where I feel the company cared so much about the growth of their salespeople. At the same time, they are realistic, they know you might only stick around for a year or so but they equip you with the tools to be your best. Someone here mentioned PIP's, of course this does happen and it is essentially a kiss of death, but you can say the same at any tech sales role. Commercial team does have a high churn rate, but it's a pretty mentally demanding job and I don't think everyone is cut out for it.
