How does DataDog compares to new players like Grafana / Chronosphere / HoneyComb?

At the mid-market / enterprise level, they don't really enter into consideration too much. Usually in commercial, where the accounts are smaller, more cloud-native and younger, is where tools like Grafana and Honeycomb will pop up. In mid-market / enterprise, it's usually New Relic, Dynatrace, AppD and / or Splunk. Sometimes, cloud native tools like Azure Monitor, Cloudwatch, etc. depending on the company's cloud maturity.

New players give you a solution thats good enough, does the job, gives more flexibility but most importantly no vendor lock in at a much lower cost level with the ability to control your spent which Datadog does not offer on purpose. You also get the blend of On-Prem and Cloud capabilities. In times of budget cuts more and more companies are looking for alternatives.

Grafana isn't considered new, but a rather more legacy open source solution. The other 2 are definitely newer players, and as someone in the SMB space in North America for 3+ years, I've come across Chronosphere 0 times and HoneyComb twice - both of which were replacement projects for HC

In Enterprise or high mid market this doesn't impact Datadog. In the commercial and lower level space, there is a huge struggle. Funding has dried up, and Datadog has burned so many of the accounts in this space through not having enough accounts for their reps that they despise the company/ sales team and wouldn't consider Datadog

Essentially all the products listed have their place in the market. The difference is the breadth of products we offer.  What you’re selling is the dream of consolidation and a true platform that is vertically integrated into every aspect of an engineers cloud observability/security needs.

The tools you mention are not per se ‘new players’ and they would offer a far less mature solution (also see Gartner Reports). Where Datadog could be the only platform an organisation uses for Observability & Security, these tools always need others to get the full picture.
