How would you assess the effectiveness of the leadership team at Smartsheet? Based on your experience with the leadership, would you advise others to consider a sales position here?

I would advise anyone, junior or senior, to avoid joining Smartsheet sales now. The leadership is callous and without a vision.

A solid 5% at best. In the UK you have one solid leader, the rest are there through favouritism, not performance. 
If I was to rewind my career, I would never have taken the role. 
If you like meetings about meetings then it's the place for you.

The head of sales is pretty new so it’s hard to say. Middle management is hit or miss. Sales in general doesn’t have a lot of org influence. It’s a very engineering and finance driven company.  We’re held accountable for the results of many ill-considered strategies into which we had no input.

I would not recommend joining Smartsheet. During my tenure, I had two managers in under two years. My first Manager provided absolutely no guidance due to lack of experience.  Only to be followed by a micro-manager who negatively impacted sales by creating unnecessary work. I did not experience any customer loyalty at Smartsheet. 
Unrealistic uplift expectations for renewals were set  well above industry standards with lack of solid support.  I observed favoritism within the Boston office, which significantly impacted the overall workplace culture. I suggest exploring other opportunities.

I have not been at smartsheet for over 6 months now, but leadership never seemed to be strong there. 1st and 2nd line managers are typically people that have been there for years and rode the wave of success to management positions. Would avoid imho

A lot of top sales leadership (from the CRO down) have changed recently so early to see the impact.
Middle management (1st and 2nd line) is a mix of people that have risen through the ranks and external hires.
some of the internal promotions were given to mediocre reps and managers. Some external hires take a lot of time to get their head around our business model.

in most cases if you're fairly junior it's fine. If you're a bit more seasoned, you'll find most management doesn't add any value and spends their time collecting forecast updates. best case they leave you alone to do your job, worse they micromanage

If you are West Coast based, you will be protected b/c the leader there in Enterprise Sales has more clout than the new senior leader who is trying to blow things up. We are protected from the nonsense the East Coast faces. The East is different due to a lack of true-ups and inbounds that the East is getting (from what I have heard). Out West, we are getting way more inbound quality leads that are leading to deals. East VP is just doing what they are told b/c they are likely also on the block.
