Question

Been here for 5years and have done well. Manager just threatened a PIP. If I am ranked 5 out of 15 in the entire region, is that threat valid? Can they throw you on one because they lack faith? What does the exit package look like on PIPs? Can u take paid leave if you fear a PIP, just to job search?

I was there for 3 years and was a top rep all 3 years. I had 1 slow quarter and my manager threatened to PIP me. I ended up taking another job before that could happen but yes it’s a valid threat.

I’ve heard of people that took leave for “mental health” and looked for a new job but it takes 3-6mo.

If given the option of doing the PIP vs. taking a package (PEP) the package may be your better option. The PIP will come with often unattainable goals and as someone mentioned previously, if you don't achieve the goals there will be no severance. Additionally, I believe that if you take the PIP and fail, you are less likely able to go back to Salesforce if you ever want to.

They tried to do the same thing to me.  I happened to be a highest achiever on my team! And delivered several deals, but they managed to create artificial metrics that are simply not part of any known KPIs. The whole thing is very toxic. Taking a LOA to get your mind straight, and start putting your feelers out in the market would be my advise. You can then come back, take the PEP, and start a new job

Yes, it is a valid threat. I was placed on a PIP despite being the 3rd highest performer in my region and exceeding expectations. Don't leave voluntarily that's exactly what they want. It’s a psychological tactic designed to pressure you at no cost to them. Instead, stand your ground and insist on an exit package if they decide to move forward.

Yes this happens.  If the manager can make a case that your numbers are good due to other team members and not your direct actions.  This is especially true in Q4.
A PIP is 30 days to meet goals that are unattainable.  I have heard of some people being given the option to "leave now and take a severance package; or, be on PIP and at the end get no severance." I guess it depends on where you are.
And people taking mental health LOAs does happen also.  That postpones the inevitable.

No their are minimal targets you need to get to, if you don't make them for 3 months in a row you will be put on a PIP
