Does management look regularly at SDRs to fill open AE or sales roles?

Yes, but keep in mind that they will put you on a performance plan after you miss quota and if you miss quota for the next month you are out. I would say that 90% of the SDRs will either leave or get fired. A lot of good SDRs will go to other companies to become AEs.

Maybe once upon a time but not anymore. When you hit promotion metrics they will come up with excuses on why you have to wait until you eventually have a slower month and that slower month knocks your eligibility out of another 3 months. All while hiring outside and watching most of those reps fail.

I will have to disagree 100% with the majority of these responses. Podium is never looking to promote performing SDRs to AEs unless specific time criteria has been met. You could have 3 years experience as an SDR, 6 months at Podium and they will still hold you from promotion. Upper management will not make exceptions even with high performing reps.

Yes and no. I have seen many SDRs perform amazing and not get promoted. There are times where they expect you to close 10 deals in a month as an SDR for your AE before they will promote you. It used to be more common for SDRs to get promoted quickly into an AE role but now that Podium is so large it takes well over a year to get promoted.

no, because I know someone who hit their numbers a few months ago and they didn't get promoted despite interviewing for the role and being a killer sdr several months in a row

Yes. Some of the best AE reps will be from an SDR role. Lots of reasons for that and one being you have drank the "kool-aid" and helps a ton. Selling Podium isn't the same as selling other Saas products.

I would honestly look at other companies that promise what they preach. Podium does promote SDRs but it takes forever and most SDRs get fired or leave within a year.

Yes, all the time. I was promoted to being an AE after being an SDR (we refer to them as ADMs). I'd say 20%-30% of most AE teams are comprised of former ADMs.

If you have previous ADM/BDR/SDR experience, you're better off applying for an AE position off the bat.  If you have a low-performing AE they will hold that against you.

Yes, it is much more common to become an AE through the ADM role than from an external hire

Absolutely. Podium is definitely  focused on promotions and hiring internally for AE roles. They are very transparent to make sure all employees know what the roadmap looks like for advancing your career internally.

Yes. Since the AE's need to source 40-50% of their pipeline, the SDR skill-set, culture buy-in, and grind mentality means there are tons of opportunities for promotions into an AE role.
