My experience at New York Life taught me a lot about how insurance companies can be, the highs and the lows. Great leadership culture, but terrible selling mechanism- social selling. Get your friends, your family, call them up and the random person you have in your phone. anyone and everyone needs what you sell. Very little inbound flow, i got 2 leads in the last 4 months, one of them was fake and the other one my mentor was able to sell.

There's potential to earn great money as an insurance agent with NYL, but you have to do a lot of volume in prospecting. You also must have great product knowledge, which they provide in asynchronous online training (at your own pace). Management and trainers could definitely be better teachers in the art of sales. Poor. My director was stripped of their creditials from FINRA because of illegal practices. I did my best to help other teammates and won lots of awards, but in the end only make about 50k in one year. I did learn some of the basics of sales though, and for that it seemed useful.
