What do some sales reps mean when they say that it’s good for early career but not mid to late career?

It’s great for early career because the company invests a lot in your understanding of b2b sales, is very process driven, etc. But (at least in account mgmt), there are a lot of sales skills you won’t develop because AMG is very service oriented and you don’t get a ton of sales repetitions.

There is plenty of opportunity at Gartner whether you're in early, mid, or late career. I've seen people start in their early 20s and work there for 20 or more years, if you are a strong performer and willing to grow, there should be roles available.

I joined Gartner later in my career and it's been a great fit.  I started at a significantly higher compensation level than peers who climbed the ranks internally.  Gartner's culture, achievable OTEs, and stability align well for me.  With that said, many tech companies do offer higher earnings for enterprise reps.

World class training program, good team culture, and it can be a very challenging sale at times, lot of moving parts internally/ externally so it’s great experience. Also at the center of business/tech, good exposure. Can make a lot more $ as an enterprise rep elsewhere though once experienced

Heavily scripted sales process, carving up accounts diminishing ent sales roles, lots of busy work and manage only by metrics, no room for creativity or building on exp.

Territories play huge part in success, lot of bad.

I would presume they mean the training is top notch so its a great place to start a sales career.  Or the training was top notch--it used to be 6 weeks offsite in Florida(paying your full OTE).  Now its 10 or 12 days I think virtually.   However, Gartner is a great place to progress--tons of advancement opportunities should that be the path you want to go.

Continuing from the capped earnings statement - you will make good money, but you  won’t ever make crazy money 500k+ (generally speaking). Selling can get a bit boring as well, as the sales cycles are super complex. So sometimes people leave to other orgs but plenty of lifers

You're unlikely to know the difference between a company actually at the forefront of digital disruption and one that has lost its way. The amount of work relative to pay isn't going to be the highest but you could theoretically make a decent living. There's just no incentive to work harder given lower commission rates, caps on bonuses, infighting on deals, and lack of territory planning/account lists.

As an older sales professional, you won't mind the less work for a decent payday so long as you can play golf during the week without being bothered which is also a possibility.

I’d disagree with this statement. In fact, I’d say it’s the opposite. Working at gartner, you have access to the c level from day one. Access you could dream of at other orgs. So you have to be sharp and experienced with c level convos. 
What I will say is, earnings are a bit capped.
