What's the sales culture like at Dell Technologies? Have there been any recent changes?

With massive layoffs, the sales culture became one of fear of losing your job. Over the past 2+ years, it became a layoff culture.

It is no longer a sales drives culture. Too many changes in the coverage models. Salespeople aren't valued like they once were.

I haven’t been there since 2020, but they don’t exactly “value” sales people. It’s not a sales driven culture anymore. It absolutely was at EMC

Sales culture at Dell has a lot to do with what group you are in and what your level of experience is.
they are pushing to reduce their overall sales force numbers in the US and also bring down the age of the sellers thru attrition,   university hiring programs, role eliminations on higher band sellers,  etc...

It can still be a great spot for a salesperson,   but you should not go in assuming that there is a culture of fostering positivity and personal growth.   you are still largely responsible for that portion and you need to treat it that way.
If you are younger,   Dell provides a strong development path that exposes you to many types of industries and client sizes you can sell to across a variety of offerings and solutions.

they are not unlike the rest of the industry in that they have high, sometimes unrealistic growth expectations and will hold the sellers accountable before they hold the sales plan or the leadership team accountable to those results.
one area that Dell offers strength that no others can is in the collection of data and your ability as a seller to leverage that to prospect and to develop and grow your business.   they are best in class there.

at Dell,  the culture ultimately is what you make of it,   it won't make the job fun for you,   you are the only one who can make it fun.

There have been massive layoffs and the culture right now is one of fear and uncertainty. Prior to layoffs, the culture was in flux. The Dell/EMC merger brought together two very different sales cultures. Old Dell culture was very laid back, good old boy, relationship driven, EMC was more structured

Totally agree with comment/response below....Take it from someone who has done 3 tours of duty at Dell covering approx 12yrs....Dell has "layoffs, ie. they call it WFR(workforce reductions) every quarter...I was there when they had their very first public/in the news layoff back in 1999-2000 time frame...sometimes less than a 100, more times 1000's...and each time after that, more times than often, they publish "record earnings"....it's all about the $$ and pleasiing the investors and Michael Dell..  Culture of "fear", ie., who's next on the chopping block...  They talk a good game, about work place family atomosphere, diversity and inclusion, loyalty and care for employees, etc, but really in fact it all comes down the $$.   Great example, most recently Dell laid off 1000's in 2023, calling it basically getting "leaner" to become more agile to be able to better deal with economic/business needs.  Shortly after that, published again "record earnings" and on top of that during that time Dell closed the "sell-off" of VMware to Broadcom....MD profited/pocketed $20 Billion off that sell, yet at same time Dell laid off 1000's...   You tell me, what is it Dell really cares about??  $1 Billion of that money could have kept every one of those employees employed for next 30yrs.   Greed, how much is Enough??

Reality, no JOB is a lifetime gaurantee these days...No ONE owes you anything and sadly Not Many really Care....You take a job and ride the train as long as you can if it provides well for you and your family with pay and benefits...just know, it could all go away at any day/any moment, and there is no concern from employers standpoint for you or your family.  They will lay you off and  replace you, not remember your name the next week...that's just Facts!!

You either start your own business and build a life/dream for yourself....or you spend your life, working for someone else and building their dream/lifestyle.

There have been a lot of changes. Thousands of people have been laid off, and thousands more fear more reductions are coming. It’s a culture of uncertainty. This used to be a great place to work but the great Dell culture is no longer what it was
