Question

I may be starting as the first Commercial AE in a completely new market for Datadog where the enterprise team is also fairly new.

I've been reading reviews where very very few Commercial AEs in Datadog hit their quotas. Would being the first commercial AE make it easier for me to hit quota?

The issue with Datadog is that there are no accounts to distribute amongst AE’s that haven’t already been worked by 4-5 AEs previously, or are very low quality.

If these accounts haven’t been touched, you might do pretty well if you maintain high quality activity and strategy.

10% of commercial AE's hit their number. Been here several years and even with the "new logo bonus" they've added this remains true.

There is a lot of favoritism amongst sellers & leadership with reps being awarded inbounds, strong account patches, promotions based on non-work relationships & politics.

Hey - hard to say, it mostly depends on your market's maturity. 
What I've heard from reps starting in a poorly penetrated market is that it's much easier to hit your quota. Until Datadog realises that there are opportunities and starts hiring aggressively :)

For example, reps on the French market were having lots of opps until the org hired a total of 15 reps for a single country...

if this a greenfield territory and you are the first rep it's a great opportunity

The comp plan is not only based on quota achievement for new comers. Plus, there is some incentive when signing new logos. Bottom line, it is possible to reach the OTE even without reaching the quota target.
