Amazon is a bit cult like with their leadership principles and can be very bureaucratic, but if you land on a good team with leaders that you work well with and trust then it can be a good place. On the other hand, if your manager does not like you then your days are numbered regardless how well you are doing in your role.

My experience there was phenomenal! Of course there is red tape but overall I felt I had control of my business and was really able to help customers, make great money, and not have much stress on the day-to-day. It is difficult to move into management, but being an IC was a great experience

AWS pays at the top of market while offering 100s of infrastructure solutions to enterprise clients. The culture is highly politicized and "upleveling" often comes down to factors outside of performance and merit. That being said, the learning opportunity is unparalleled and provides amazing exposure to organization processes.
