A typical high-performing BDR is in the role for 1-1.5 years. Memfault created a new position between BDR and AE, the ISR, to be a midway point to "help BD transition into AEs". No BDR has been promoted to ISR position at Memfault with quite a few veterans sidelined that have built out a lot of the sales process and hit quota. The one ISR Memfault did have, was in the position for almost 2 years before they were promoted to a small business AE. (During this time they brought on multiple AEs fresh out of being a BDR for larger accounts). The base pay and commission are competitive, but looking at the opportunity costs of almost 4 years before becoming an AE casts a dark cloud over initial pay. No company is going to hire a BDR or ISR to an AE position so you're locked in with Memfault until that day comes. Memfault is a great startup for established, higher-level positions, but not if you're starting at the bottom and want to grow in sales.
