In the small market space, pay is competitive, deals have historically been winnable, and leadership is engaged. The higher up you go, the pay and support don’t scale. Each additional tier you sell into is a little more difficult, leaders are a little less engaged, and pay is less competitive. In recent years, prices have gone up, pay has stagnated, the service quality has gone down and leaders look out for you less. I used to always say “anything that goes wrong this year, leadership will make right next year.” There are many issues outside of leadership’s control that won’t be fixed soon. Those include product quality, sales ops timeliness, bureaucratic bloat, unrealistic quotas to meet PE expectations and rampant nepotism. This company made me the seller that I am, but can’t take me to the next level that I’m ready for.
