ThoughtSpot has a strong product and an exciting market opportunity, but poor leadership, high customer churn, and lack of sales support make it a tough place to succeed as an AE. Pros: The product is innovative and has real value when implemented correctly. Peers in sales, pre-sales, and customer success are talented and hardworking. There’s a growing market for self-service analytics, giving the company potential. Cons: Leadership lacks true management skills and focuses on micromanagement rather than developing AEs. They frequently interfere in deals, override strategies, and play last-minute pricing games. High customer churn due to poor retention strategy and lack of customer success support. Leadership prioritizes new logos over long-term value. Unrealistic quotas without adequate marketing or pipeline support. Minimal sales enablement or training, making ramp-up slow and frustrating. Internal dysfunction—misalignment between sales, marketing, and product leads to chaos and shifting priorities. Final Thoughts: AEs must be prepared to operate with minimal support in a constantly changing environment. If you thrive in uncertainty and can work around leadership challenges, you may find success, but for most, this role will be frustrating.
