What are the requirements and typical promotion time line for BDR to AE at Salesforce?

I have a 2nd round interview for a BDR position at Salesforce next week, the recruiter did not know the requirements or timeline

They say 12-15 months is the standard. To get promoted at 12 months, you must have a 130% compass score (which is a performance score that is an average of your time in seat). To get promoted at 15+ months, you must have an average of 100% compass score to become eligible to interview for AE.

A couple of years ago, the typical promotion time for BDR to AE was 12-15 months. This year, that timeline has grown to 18 months. There are always exceptions but that is what’s typical. Keep in mind that the absolute minimum requirement is 12 months in seat.

It depends a lot on your manager and, of course, how well you perform. As mentioned it is a minimum of 12 months. I would be VERY upfront about your desire to move through the process as quickly as possible and talk about the creative ways you'll bring value to the BDR team and to the AE you'll be working with.

It's a difficult role if you don't develop strong relationships with the AEs.

The compass score is spot on. Just be aware that there's a complete element of luck depending on the segment/AE you support. In Enterprise, a lot of accounts do not need a BDR, yet they assign one to accounts and expect $1M+ of monthly pipeline to be generated. Long story short, it's about understanding the game, leveraging relationships, and kicking and screaming until you're given the promo.

You could expect to be in seat for 14-18 months at the latest and will be promoted if you hit your quota.

24 months if you’re hitting all your KPI’s and are a team player in the office & with your manager & AE’s.  TOP performers who consistently demonstrate “above & beyond,” can get promoted sometime between 12-18 months depending on open AE Role needs.
