How challenging is it to advance from SDR to AE at Klaviyo, and what opportunities for growth can sales professionals expect within the company?

Thanks for the question! Internal mobility is very important to Klaviyo and our sales organization. BDR's are welcome to apply to open AE roles once they meet the tenure and performance requirements, and our BDR leaders work with their teams to ensure they're able to progress to their next step. Currently, about 50% of our Entrepreneur AE team in the US was promoted from our BDR organization.

It's not terribly difficult at all. You have to be in the BDR/SDR seat for 9 mo and maintain a 110% trailing average for your last 6 months. There's quite a few growth opportunities and you don't necessarily have to go from SDR to AE, they're pretty good about helping you get to a position / dept. you may potentially be interested in if you feel like you'd be better suited for something else.

However, the jump from BDR to AE is a complete 180, so be ready for a challenge. The LSMB AE role is no joke.

It's very political. If you can do well and can make friends it will be quick. Otherwise, you'll be ostracized.

Couldn't pay me to be a LSMB AE though.

It’s not that hard but if you do get promoted to AE you’ll most likely be on a performance plan within a few months. Zero sales training, no leads. Run far away
