Even post-acquisition, Coupa remains a good place to work as an SC. There’s no more employee stock purchase plan or equity for individual contributors now, but the base pay and commission structure are decently above market. When I started with Coupa, the company was a public company with lots of opportunity to grow and develop, and seemed to reward employees better. Since the company has been taken private, while we are still the market leader, opportunities for progression are limited. Overall, not a bad company.

For 2023, 1 out of 32 SMB reps hit annual quota. For MM, 1 out of 23 hit. The next 5 most successful reps hovered around 40% quota, with the remaining 80% of reps hitting around 15-20% of quota. Coupa is a good product but the management is corrupt. They don’t acknowledge how niche the sell is and force numbers and ruin prospect relationships by cornering them for not having cash runway to buy in coupas month end.

Too many leadership changes to remain consistent. Base salary is good but not a lot of potential to hit your OTE. Only 2 reps on the MM / SMB team hit quota last year. They raised quota again this year...

Coupa was purchased by private equity, and everything changed. 35% of the company was let go via an email at 5pm on a Friday. Culture is gone.

Really strong enterprise software. They overscaled the Corporate team (SMB) and have too many reps hunting the same accounts. Great fit when the company is multi-location, pushing to go public. A lot more than what many companies in the Corporate space are open to investing in, implementation was often 1.25-1.5X year one ACV making the sale very value driven.

There was a lot of change while here with the purchase of the company by private equity. Prior to the purchase, the culture was well above average. Then many good people were let go. Those remaining have experienced little communication and more layoffs. The product is excellent, the clients are positive, the employee group is intelligent.

Thoma Bravo has been making changes to make it better but we still have a way to go in terms of compensation and product fit. In the current market, company's are not focused on getting a full procure to pay solution and with new competitors in the space, its become a lot harder to sell.

Was a good place to work prior to being acquired by TB. Since things have become extremely cut throat, several rounds of layoffs, and expectations are much higher. Would recommend expecting little room for error. Job security in sales is always a challenge, even more so for a Thoma Bravo company.
