How effective do you find the leadership team at CloudFlare in providing coaching and development opportunities? Based on your experiences with leadership, would you recommend pursuing a sales position at CloudFlare?

Hell no stay clear unless your unemployed.  Horrible leadership from the top down with a CEO that publicly mocks sales people.

The thing is, you don't succeed at Cloudflare from knowing how to SELL -- you succeed from knowing how to HACK Cloudflare. Our Austin GM even said this on a public Austin call, that this was becoming evident, that people were breaking ROE, getting good accounts in the shadiest of ways. I had previously worked at a company for 4 years where I NEVER ONCE HAD A DEAL SPLIT....whereas in 2 years at Cloudflare, almost EVERY SINGLE net new logo of mine had some ROE issue or someone trying to take the deal from me.

Coaching/Development: I had a manager that had been at Cloudflare for years, was highly intelligent and knew the technology like an SE, but did not have a great sales process, they wouldn't be able to apply/verbalize his process for use at another company for example. And they definitely were not a "coach" type. Whereas my old sales manager at another company would wipe the floor with them without even knowing the technology; my old manager was also the coaching type and would give a "hey, good job on X, but I did notice that when the customer mentioned Y, you could have dug in more to get to a deeper level of pain. Give them a call right now and ask about that, I think that might be the missing piece to confirm if this deal is real or if we need to close it out", etc. I feel I had better general sales process/discipline than my Cloudflare manager (detailed discovery, quantifying pain/impact, setting next steps, getting to power, etc.), but they were still very supportive.

Many Cloudflare vets who had success over a 5 year period are not having success today (no more riding the wave) or were let go. So what worked previously will not work today, and after the resegmentation into digital native and commercial, the old "upsell self-serve accounts" motion doesn't exist for example.

I don't recommend going into a sales position at CF, especially if you're trying to become a better seller.

Honestly, it needs work and that’s probably the best way to describe things at the moment. Work in progress. You need thick skin and experience to work here
