Is Azure really coming on strong with the OpenAI credits carrot? When is AWS going to step into the AI game, seems they have the distribution advantage but first mover might be catching up?

I think there are some grossly misconceptions with respect to AI/ML in the market with the hot topic of generative AI from openAI surging the media headers nowadays.

1st - AI/ML is not new.  Impatiens like AWS and MSFT have been providing AI/ML capabilities in products and solutions for almost 20yrs now. Put respect behind AWS as a market leader in providing AI capabilities currently.

2nd - there are many verticals within AI. OpenAI is on the front providing next gen Generative AI. Even this is not new to the market, Amazon has been doing things like this with Alexa for years as an example. Apple with Siri, MSFT Cortana, etc.

3rd - AWS has already responded to generative AI with it’s Bedrock solution and is honestly probably ahead of the curve with respect to actually getting implemented solutions in place with Enterprises due to their already current involvement with AI/ML workloads and footprints running on their platform. It may or may not be behind the curve with respect to OpenAI with accuracy (debatable topic), but don’t underestimate time to market, cost and support when it comes to large companies choosing vendors to actually implement.

MSFT has a $10B investment into openAI for generative AI roll into product sets. This is extremely new and will take years and years to get fully functional use cases running well in the market (same for AWS).

If you are looking at market leaders for AI in the market m, it hard to argue AWS isn’t a top solution provider if not THE top provider in the market right now.

AWS and MSFT are taking 2 different strategies. MSFT is hitched to OpenAI, however most companies aren’t going to put proprietary company data into ChatGPT or whatever else. AWS Bedrock basically gives customers a choice on which LLM they want to build with and can then deploy the model with their own data.  We’ll see what wins out but overall it’s still early. AWS was late to marketing it, but is catching up quickly.

Quick answer: Amazon is well positioned to support customers with GenAI interest. Bedrock is API service into  3rd party Foundational Models as wells AWS own model- Titan which is trained on about 2x, more parameters than chat GPT4, plus all kids of open source models. Plus they make their own chips for AI very fast and very cost effective - price/performance is better that Nvidia new chip for example - easily referenced. Finally AWS has tons of AI products and services already - 100k customers use SageMaker for example. So I’d say while it’s still too early to tell how it will all shape up — AWS is well positioned in this space to offer what’s actually important and valuable to its customers

AWS has been providing AI/ML for years, many customers are already leveraging some of the services. That said, this whole ChatGPT hype is bringing all of the services to the forefront and reminding people how powerful these tools can be.

I wouldn't focus too much on it. As it will have limitations like mentioned below. Build a well rounded proposal for your customer's market segment, that will give them an edge over direct competitors that they can continuously scale.
