AT&T, renowned for its reputation, falls short in fostering female mentorship and leadership support, exacerbating the underrepresentation of women in technology and STEM roles. Initially fortunate to have a fantastic female Director, subsequent team transitions revealed leadership's lack of investment in understanding my background, likely influenced by numerous company acquisitions. 'Disinterest in 'Career Pathing' discussions during Annual Reviews hindered meaningful conversations, reflecting industry-wide inadequacies in female-to-female support. A female mentor in leadership is crucial, especially in male-dominated fields like high-end sales, where opportunities often stem from supportive male counterparts. Large corporations, including AT&T, emphasize Leadership Programs for recent Ivy League graduates, potentially overlooking existing talent within their ranks. Shedding light on these concerns aims to drive collective efforts in creating a corporate culture that addresses gender disparities, fostering cross-organizational career growth, development, and employee retention. Encountering female management hindering success highlights a deeper issue. Comprehensive conversations within female professional communities are essential to nurture talent and challenge industry norms. Working for AT&T offers excellent opportunities, surrounded by knowledgeable individuals. Immerse yourself in learning, stay focused on your career goals, and believe in your capabilities – prodigies can emerge from unexpected places.
