Current Employee Twilio is the clear leader in the CPaaS market, yet its executive sales leadership lacks the fundamental skills to scale a company of Twilio's size. The most senior sales leaders come from finance and product roles and do not understand the core competencies or behaviors critical to building a strong sales engine and culture. They consistently fail to distinguish between proactive sales efforts and natural account expansion in their usage-based model, resulting in chaotic compensation plans that shift every 6 months. Meanwhile, the company's lopsided focus on "strategic" accounts (i.e. existing customer sales) masks the companies inability to consistently acquire new logos—revealing a weakness in new business acquisition despite the market leadership position.
