How long does it usually take for an account development rep to move to a closing role?

Usually about 12-18 months to get to commercial sales.

Depends on the market. US / UK minimum of 18 months or more. EMEA is much easier but minimum 12 months as standard. Even if you’re over performing they won’t want to pull you off ADR for that exact reason

In EMEA, 18 months. If you are overperforming, then less than 18 months. However, they are hiring many external AEs. And I see a few SDRs who are at Samsara for longer than 18 months and they are still SDRs.

They will continue to move the length that it takes. When I was hired, they promised myself and many others who were hired before me “you will be promoted within 12 months.” This was not a rounded estimate, this was them telling you an exact time. This was extremely misleading. Once you hit 12 months they would use every excuse under the sun to not promote people because they realized that had hired too many external AE’s that they had nowhere to put internal promotions. After 12 months they told myself and others another 6 months, then after 6 months another 3 months. Once I had waited the extra 9 months and only 1-2 promotions happened it was clear the upper management did not care about SDR’s path upward

When I was there, it was around 1-year depending how good you were. Some took longer, I've seen SDR's where it took 1.5 years to almost 2 years to get promoted
