New business unit within Oracle selling to local government, which Oracle has never done before. The market is ripe with opportunity, but unfortunately Oracle Corp is totally inflexible and does not bend as needed to enter a new market, successfully. Moreover, leadership of this business unit did not do the right amount of market research, went to market too early with a product that still had major gaps, and hired a full sales team too soon. Pitched as a start up within Oracle to recruit top GovTech talent, which ended up not being a startup culture at all. Really good incentive comp plans, but totally unachievable. No account executive hit quota; and a few never closed one deal in a 2 year tenure. The business unit executed a RIF and eliminated high-quality experienced account executives without cause. Oracle hires “yes men”, so if you tend to be a creative self-starter, a challenger, and you often ask “why”, then you should not work here.

The BD org was very siloed and lack of collaboration with other department. It happens when the organisation is growing and happens to be one of the biggest company in the industry. Compensation could be better.
