How would you describe the sales culture at OpenText?

In general, this answer depends on who you’re working for and which division you’re in. Overall, I would say it is entrepreneurial. There are  expectations of high performance or at least a certain level of performance while doing the right things. Leaders are extremely experienced. Good teamwork.

As is customary, everything hinges on the specific country and department in question. In the context of the AE role, the prevailing ethos revolves around achieving tangible outcomes. Nevertheless, based on my personal observations, there has been a noticeable shift towards a more pronounced micromanagement approach since the merger with Microfocus. This entails the introduction of Salesforce and Excel reports in addition to existing ones, an increase in pipeline generation meetings, the customary forecast meeting, and daily calls to update your opportunities. Only after completing these tasks can you delve into the actual world of sales. Ultimately, your performance will be assessed based on your sales achievements.

As others have mentioned, there are many different sales teams across OpenText, largely due to their inorganic growth model (growth through acquisitions). Because of that, the Security Solutions side of their business is in a constant state of disruption as they continue to acquire more competing companies.  This results in shuffling reps around, redundant roles, no sense of job security as they quietly remove both leaders and individuals from their roles. Couple that with painfully messy systems integrations (i.e. SFDC), broken quote-to-cash processes, never-ending partner program changes, and unattainable comp plans, it's very difficult to be successful. I will say there are some really great individuals and leaders there, but unfortunately, OpenText manages the business like a holding company.
