What does the onboarding and training process entail for new sales team members at AWS? Were you adequately prepared for the role after completing the ramp-up process?

Usually you have 90 days of shadowing your peers and to complete 1/ base cloud certification (Cloud Practitioner) and 2/ a "Checkride" which is essentially a simple presentation of AWS' cloud services. I felt relatively well prepared after the 90 days and my manager did a great job making sure I wasn't just thrown into the fire afterwards.

They give you 45 days to get your AWS CCP certification which is all self-study.  NO internal classes given or help from your manager.  They then will have you do a "Check Ride" which is a sales presentation to one of your real accounts in your book.  3-5 managers will be on the call along with a few ICs.  You will set up the scenario and they will start asking you questions.  It's kind of a joke since none of my calls went along this line of questioning. It's more suited to ENGAGED customers vs. Greenfield.  Just keep asking questions on why they asked a question...sounds silly but they want to see you keep digging on what the customer's pain points are.  The rest is basically on your own unless you get a good manager to look after you, which is hard to find.  Beware that you will get put on a PIP even if you are hitting your goals.  Managers have to clip the bottom 10-15% of their teams each year. So if you have a few people crushing quota and you are just hitting the goal, you could be part of that either FOCUS group which is the precursor to a PIP. Or they can just throw you on a PIP to hit their attrition number.  Have fun!
