Question

Anxious guy. Just finished my four person loop. Interesting interview, it's a sales role. I did not feel a connection with anyone in the interview, they seemed like robots asking questions. No "I like that approach". Is this by design? Waiting on my results - but lack of connection has me in fear!

This is the standard approach for AWS interviews. The goal is less about connection, and more capturing your abilities in the role, and data points to support the hire. As a sales interviewer this is very common.

I have been at AWS for 4 year now and the people are great here! I wouldn't worry too much about the interview because its totally different once you get in.

Completely normal, the point of the interview is for the interviewers to gather as much data as possible about you as both a sales rep but also if you're going to be a good Amazonian (IE if you represent the Leadership Principles and are more than just a sales rep worried about hitting your number).  Very different from a lot of other sales interviews where gelling with the person on the other side of the table is important.

This is by design, each interviewed is selected at random and isn’t necessarily from the team or even business unit you are interviewing for. Furthermore they have a list of questions they have to get through in the time provided and write down the answers so no time for chit chat, it’s not you.

Trust your instinct, you will succeed at AWS if you adapt to its culture. Ask them to interview another team member, and see what they say. It is a cutthroat enviroment.

Don't fear the lack of feedback. The interview process is all behavior questions which you are required to respond in STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Results) method with data points. The questions align with Amazon's 14 Leadership Principles.  FYI: AWS CSC group had a reorganization in early July,

Hey there, I worked there for 4 years.  Unfortunately that is how their interview process is designed.  They are each assigned a few leaderships principles and ask based on those.  They are instructed not to give feedback.  Hang in there and wait.
