Is alteryx ahead or behind the curve when it comes to competitors? I noticed they've slipped in the Gartner MQ, while the leader box is busy

Coming from a former rep for 2.5 years... Behind. There were some poor choices on the Product side that prevented us from moving to a truly cloud hosted solution for customers. For context, Designer today needs to be on a PC primarily or (with the right licensing rights) on a VM. Server needs to be deployed either on-prem or in a customers AWS/Azure self hosted cloud instance. There is a first version of Designer in the cloud out. It will be an uphill battle to get back to the front of the pack (and top right of the Gartner MQ) with the time lost unfortunately.

I would say they are behind. The product needs to be rebuilt in the cloud since it is currently on prem. Meanwhile products like tableau prep have enhanced their offering to the market making Alteryxs unique value smaller. They used to win on “prep and blend” but now they don’t, they are strong in data science.

Behind.  They made strides in the cloud space with their acquisition of Trifacta, but it will likely be another year before the cloud solution is robust enough to compare to their desktop solution.  Companies that are in the cloud or are migrating to the cloud have been passing over AYX due to this.
