I joined Redpanda’s COM team feeling optimistic, but it didn’t take long for the cracks to show. Leadership turnover and some poor hires - like a Head of COM Sales who relied on discounting and high-pressure tactics - really hurt morale and performance. The product, which once had a strong story, struggled to compete after Confluent adjusted its pricing, and buyer priorities shifted away from what we offered. Inbound leads, especially in Enterprise, were scarce, and delays in cross-functional collaboration held up key features. PT, now the VP of Global Sales, brings solid leadership, but it still feels like Redpanda might have missed its moment. Competitors like Warpstream moved faster, and layoffs across teams point to ongoing challenges.
