Purple has changed from a product-focused marketing juggernaut to a manufacturing & sales organization run by 1990’s management styles.
Selling is about channel stuffing and retail slots, strong-arming retailers instead of designing killer products and changing the way millions of people sleep.
As mattress people took over, the share price tumbled. Management blames the selling environment but the benchmark for Purple has always been Tempur-pedic (TSI). One is a healthy businesses, one continues to gasp for air.
Sales leadership, culture is strained, and they’re doing to Purple what happened to Serta. Same tigers, same stripes, I’ve made up my mind don’t confuse me with the facts.
What was once a great & growing company full of vigor and promise is a shadow of its former self..
