Why are the base salaries so low at Momentive? That combined with what looks like low quota attainment seems like a tough environment to make ends meet on the home front - is turn-over really high?

Turn over is really high. There have been a lot of bad decision making on the sales management side that put Momentive in a bad spot. All those people got fired last year. The company recently got acquired by private equity and therefore is restructuring so it would not be the best time to join. Good luck.

Turnover is high recently (since Oct 2022), have had a couple rounds of layoffs and the normal resignations that come with a new year starting. Quota attainment is low overall right now, but there is a group of AEs who have made their number consistently over their time here. Story is no different than any other Sales org, the AEs who hit their number are just the ones who know how to combine quality and quantity for pipe gen, it's just a smaller group here that knows how to do it.

You’re spot on. Base pay is far below industry standard and very few people hit quota, so it’s not a great place to make money (which is why we’re in sales, right..?). Turnover is pretty high with exceptions for senior AEs who have been with the company forever. They’ve laid off a lot of the Sales team already, and I think they’re looking to make it even smaller, so people leaving on their own just means less severance they’ll have to pay out.

Part of the reason for this is the 4x accelerator (i.e ~40% commission rate) for those that get to 100%+.  It pays well to over-perform here but I can see how those not in that bucket of performance could see an issue with the comp.  The comp model is purposefully designed to pay and retain those over 100% performance while providing an OK comp package or those in the 70%-100% range.

They had a pretty good accelerator if you hit your numbers per quarter. Also you got quite some shares back then… it is always about the total comp package… however as stated in other comments already the leadership team basically didn’t manage to transform the company into an enterprise business

Turn over is really high recently. Benefits are actually pretty good. No one will give you attitude for taking pto. Health insurance is good. But it’s a big risk working at momentive right now regardless.

During my time at Momentive, the attainment % was about 10% for commercial and about the same for Middle Market.  The % shown on RepVue is not accurate.  No one hit quota on my team for MM.  Middle Market was much tougher than Commercial.  The Commercial team received inbound leads and MM received very little which is common in MM but the frustrating part was that the commercial team was getting routed middle market and enterprise level accounts on a regular basis due to the CRM being inaccurate.  During my time, I became the most tenured person on the MM team within 6 months so there was a lot of turnover.  The culture was great when I started, but with the loss of majority of the sales leaders and mistake such as the rebrand and failed Zendesk acquisition, things changed.
