Is it easy to move up in the organization from an SDR type role and is it merit based or politics?

It is definitely not easy to move up based solely on merit and is decided mainly by politics.There are definitely exceptions and requires above average dedication to cold calling and emailing to get to that level. There is no clear career pathing and the communication from management is not there at all. You're stuck wondering when to ask for promotions, who to ask, and how to go about it.

The first answer is correct. If you are incredibly good you could move up quick but most people live in a sort of SDR purgatory

Sisense has shifted dramatically in the past 3 years with how it promotes SDR roles.  Now there is a clear path through SDR Ranks to Inside Sales Rep to AE and many of our former SDRs are on that path.

Lots of office politics are needed to move up from the SDR role as of lately. Favoritism is noticeable. Being highly successful as well as tenured as an SDR  is overshadowed by who you know. No clear paths to promotion, especially if wanting to move into any role other than AE.

Yes. Great place to start a sales career as an SDR/ADR. They recognize hard work and proven metrics... are there politics? Ofcourse. There are politics everywhere and if you are a type of person who doesn't know how to work a room and thinks the world is out to get you, don't get into sales... because you'll fail.
