Question

After speaking with an AE - I was told given my tech experience (IT engineer, cloud egineer/admin coming up on 3 years) that I would be able to utilize that to apply for MM/Corporate AE roles, is this true? If so where do I look and how should I alter resume to reflect this?

The AE you spoke with is misguided. Without at least 3 years of AE sales under your belt, with a proven track record showing strong success as a SaaS AE Corp is not going to be a fit for you.  Emerging SB or SMB maybe (but I'd steer clear of that Org it's a mess). Your best path to being hired at Okta MM Corp is to apply for a role as a Solutions Engineer.

Do you have any SaaS AE experience?

If not, I doubt an Area Director would want you on their team despite your strong technical experience.

If you want to make an instant move, I’d suggest checking out Solution Engineer roles (half sales half engineer)

This is for your benefit only. If you went into a Corp or Field AE role without closing experience, you'd be under water 24/7 at Okta—you'd be miserable and your RD would not be happy. However, if the AE recommended you look at a Solutions Engineer role, that would be a different story.

I went from Corp > Field > Enterprise at Okta. The other reps there are outstanding. Build up your SaaS closing experience and come back for an SMB/Emerging AE role in 18 months if Okta is where you'd really like to be.
