Question

Can someone do their best to explain how the sales teams are org’d out? It isn’t as easy as other tech companies with a simple SDR followed by an AE role with a segment attached to it.

I am looking for an account executive type role, as someone who has been a BDR in the tech space for close to 3yr

If you have not been an AE at a bigger company for more than 3 years, you'll need to take a step back and continue being a BDR.

AWS and the Cloud Consumption model are very unique, and understanding the process will as a BDR will 1- allow you to be successful and 2- give you a legit opportunity at receiving an offer. Just my 2 cents as someone who did the same thing and was promoted in 18 months.

Depending on your current company, its likely that you will have to start as a Demand Gen Rep (BDR) @ AWS with minimal closing experience as an AE too. That said 18 - 24 months is a reasonable timeframe to move into a AE/AM type role. Its also helpful to ramp up as selling at hyper scalers is very different from a traditional SaaS / IT company.

AWS is basically broken into 3 segments based on customer revenue: SMB, Mid-market (called CSC), and Enterprise. Then each is split into six industry verticals. Those are then segmented by Greenfield and Engaged.

I'm not 100% sure if each of the teams have DGRs (BDR) but ENT Greenfield does for sure. As others mentioned, at 3yrs of BDR elsewhere, would definitely recommend coming as DGR (L4) and then working your way up.
