The current model is broken. Open source software should follow a tried and true path of seamless in place upgrades for on prem paid with a managed service option built on the same core. The current product set between OSS, self managed and cloud are completely out of alignment. Read: different API's, storage engine, query services, etc. It's ugly. This was a great company to sell for a couple years ago and might be a great one to sell for in a year or two but right now it is on fire.

This company was not very mature from a leadership or forecasting perspective, and while the product is awesome and has a lot of use cases, at the time when I was there they lacked a compelling reason for customers to move off of the open source solution.
