Current Employee My time at Top Hat was a disappointing experience, marked by instability and a toxic culture. A key contributor to this was a manager who cycled through multiple roles in a short period—clearly a sign leadership didn’t know where to place her. She brought little value beyond internal drama and favoritism. She frequently wore low-cut shirts in professional settings and treated her role like a high school popularity contest, bullying those who didn’t agree with her. Her immature, unprofessional behavior went unchecked and further damaged morale.
The company itself lacked stability, with constant layoffs (both official and quiet), frequent leadership turnover, and shifting strategies that left teams confused and directionless. Internal alignment was poor, and the go-to-market plan changed regularly without clarity or communication. Management was horrible!
Selling was extremely difficult due to ongoing product issues—features were often broken or missing, leading to distrust from academic institutions. In some cases, schools had explicitly banned contact from Top Hat due to previous deceptive sales practices, which severely limited my ability to generate new business or expand accounts.
