Question

I interviewed for Samsara a year ago and didnt move forward due the lack of fleet experience. Since then I've coincidentally gained fleet experience but now it looks like the AE role has gotten a bit tougher due to overhiring. Will Samsara make adjustments to their quotas? Do you foresee layoffs?

They’ve lowered quota slightly the past quarter which is great, but most reps are still not hitting their number. I do not anticipate layoffs since the turnover is so extreme- most people leave when they reach a full ramp since it is unsustainable. It’s a tough role for sure with little support.

The quotas lower I don’t think so, your will reach full quota within a year and it’s really hard to get due the over hiring AE, they pass from 16 reps to 60 in MX for example that means that you pass from 5 qualified leads per week to 1 every week . And they are avoiding raises if you get promoted

They hire to fire. That is how they avoid layoffs. Let's just say they avoid making quota easier to hit because they would retain people that way. When a company is always hiring, be worried that means they are always firing. Many people are leaving since they try to avoid giving raises when you get promoted.

It was always a tough role and yes now its tougher due to over hiring and slow internal processes just to close a deal. Quota adjustments were made a couple quarters ago but it hasn’t equated to higher performance for the reps. Theres been high turnover lately so don't think they have to lay-off!

There's always turnover and occasionally there is a small adjustment to quotas, but most are expecting books to keep shrinking and for quotas to stay the same or go up. Hard to say about layoffs, but they are quick to let go of people for underperforming. Pressure is definitely always on.
