Selling consulting or systems integration work, really requires an in depth knowledge of the customer, much more then for software and licenses. The solution has no constraints and the challenge is to clearly draw the boundaries and test the appetite with the client. Also Accenture has many processes and really is a huge organisation. I have seen many external hires from outside of consulting fail because of the internal red tape that smothers entrepreneurship. Then again, if a deal is big, you get the full attention and everyone will help you to get it done. There is always someone that has done the work before, challenge is to find them and get them to work for you. In general people are very helpful and smart, but that means that also a lot of people will want in on your deal. Selling cycles are typically long 8-12 months for new work.
