AE won’t let me hop on calls. How am I supposed to learn? I book meetings. I do research. But my AE never loops me in past the intro call. How am I supposed to learn how to sell if I never see the process?? AEs, why do some of you do this?

That’s frustrating, but if your company records calls on Gong for example you can watch the recordings in your own time (with the benefits of the analytics too) to support your own development.

It's definitely better if AEs let their SDRs join calls - both to learn what makes for a well-qualified opportunity, and to learn skills that will help them get promoted to AE. That said, depending on what you're selling it's understandable that sometimes an AE might not want 2 people on the call. One reason for this may be that they want to dig into discovery questions and if you're on the call then the lead might say "I already answered these questions with your colleague"... but in they feel that way they're going to have the thought whether you're on the call or not. Does your org rotate AEs? or do you just get assigned to one person forever? And do you know if other SDRs are joining sales calls?

Are you bringing anything to the table on those calls? As an AE I find it irritating to have extra people on the call just sitting there doing nothing. Even worse when BDRs also want to have a sync afterwards to pepper me with questions about why I presented a certain way. It might be nice if your AE mentored you, but you have to understand they have their own job to do. Offer to help them with something on the call and maybe you’ll have better luck.

Appreciate the feedback. If I was your SDR, what's something you'd want help with help with on the call or in exchange for being able to sit in?
