What is the sales culture like at Gannett and what kind of leadership can sales professionals expect?

Terrible. During my time there we were told by a sales trainer and then reinforced by our managers to tell prospects that we did not have a management fee for services like Paid Search. When I discovered this was, in fact, FALSE. I let the other sales reps on my team know. I was IMMEDIATELY yelled at by my manager and then again by the VP. When I told them both that I only had my name and reputation to count on in my community my manager's response was "don't put that guilt on me". Obviously they were well aware that the "no management fee" narrative was a lie. Why would they train their reps go to market with a lie?

Not to mention the pressure to sell is intense and the solutions are not great. So renewals are few and far between, putting you in a constant cycle of not having to replace lost business but finding new business on top of it. It is a very toxic environment.

YMMV, but it’s pretty old school. Knocking on doors and drop ins are still encouraged. One may call it an “old boys club.”

Print products still sell, but they’re behind the times on digital/paid media. Again, this may depend on your market, territory and manager.
