Lack of sales understanding and territory strategy, especially for new markets. Hiring more salespeople is not the equivalent of printing money for the company. Salespeople are first and foremost people, and they need to be treated with respect, professionalism, and regularly scheduled coaching and development. Most importantly, as any basic management book will tell you, salespeople need to be given specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound goals. Any sales team that consisting fails to set targets appropriately and churns through a new sales director every year is evident of a dysfunctional organization with a failure of leadership at the highest levels.
